Nadine Menendez's sentencing delayed until September 11

..... the federal indictment against the pair was first unsealed in September 2023 and was updated with superseding indictments three times - in October of that year [2023] and in January and March 2024.
..... Menendez, his wife and three New Jersey businessmen - Wael Hana, Fred Daibes and Jose Uribe - were charged with orchestrating a bribery scheme. Menendez and his wife allegedly received, among other things, cash gold bars and a luxury car in exchange for the use of his political influence.
.... Arlanian Menendez was initially supported to be tired alongside Menendez, Daibes and Hana, but her trial was delayed because she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
..... Initially referred to by the court only as a "serious medical condition," the diagnosis was revealed by her husband during his trail.
..... Menendez was sentenced to 11 years in prison, Hana more than eight years and Daibles seven years. Daibes was fined $1.75 million; Hana was fined $1.3 million. All three are appealing their cases.
.... Daibes and Hana were scheduled to report to prison on May 19, Menendez was granted an extension to travel with his wife to her daughter's wedding. he will now report to prison on June 17. [2025]

Arslanian Menendez's attorney Barry Coburn originally asked for a sentencing extension on April 28, [2025] saying he was "exhausted" after trial and working not only on renewing a motion for an acquittal for Arslanian Menendez but on another case involving a juvenile in Virginia where an extension request was denied.

"It is not that I need the additional time to write my presentment submission, but the individuals who will be gathering information and preparing reports are busy professional who need time to provide material that will be complete and useful to the Court," Coburn wrote in a letter to U.S. District Judge Sidney Stein on May 15. During his testimony, Uribe said he wanted to stop the New Jersey Attorney Gen real from prosecuting his friend Elvis Parra, a trucking company owner who had been indicted on insurance fraud charges. He also wanted to derail the expanding investigations into the company, Prestige Trucking Express, that Parra created afterward with his business partner Bienvenido Hernandez, as will as Uribe's insurance brokerage, Phoenix Risk Management. Phoenix secured insurance for both Parra's firms.
..... "I agreed with Nadine Menendez and other people to provide a car for Nadine in order to get the power and influence of Mr. Menendez," Uribe said.
